Mattresses - Mattresses

Mattresses are so synonymous with beds these days that people view them as a single entity. In its truest sense, the mattress is basically a pad or mat that is placed on a bed.
Well… what are mattresses used for? Sleeping, of course.
We all know how important it is to have a good night’s rest. And sometimes, the wrong kind of mattress can result in just the opposite with greater implications.
So, one can safely conclude that in order to have a good night’s rest, one must have a comfortable and relaxing mattress to sleep on.
And even though we consider the mattress a modern invention, it is hardly the case as its invention (in its roughest form) dates back to the Neolithic period by building a bed of grass or sticks and placing animal skin over it.
Nowadays, mattresses are made from quality linen, cotton, wool, vinyl and even a substance called memory foam… a far cry from the straw, reeds, hay or even feathers that were used in ancient times.
With the focus on comfort, resistance to pests and heat-retaining properties, memory foam mattresses which were invented in the 70s by NASA, are a popular choice today even though that are comparatively expensive to normal foam mattresses yet is a much better investment as it shows formidable resistance to pests, the cold and water, hence making it much more durable as compared to its competitors. |
